Kwan
Jang Nim (grandmaster) Hwang Kee began his martial arts studies in Manchuria,
China in 1936 and founded the Moo Duk Kwan Style in Seoul, Korea on November 9,
1945. Despite enduring many hardships over the next 30 years, Hwang Kee struggled
through wars and governmental/political issues to keep the Art of Soo Bahk Do
(Tang Soo Do) - Moo Duk Kwan alive. See link

The number of practitioners of Soo Bahk Do continued to grow through the years
and outgrow the physical boundaries of Korea as many servicemen rotated home to
their native countries with these newly acquired abilities. Grandmaster Hwang
Kee soon realized that there was a growing need to unify these multinational practitioners
and ensure the standardization of his techniques.
With these thoughts in mind the Grandmaster dispatched his son, Master H.C.
Hwang, first to Greece and then to the United States.
In 1974, Master Hwang opened the first Hwang Karate Studio in Springfield, New
Jersey. In addition to operating his studio, Master Hwang spearheaded the formation
of the U.S. Tang Soo Do (Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation as we know it today)
in order to continue the Grandmaster's life long efforts. Today the United States
Federation services over 200 studios with thousands of active members.
In 1997 H.C. Hwang Sa Bom Nim announced his
retirement from formal teaching due to his increasing travel schedule on behalf
of the Moo Duk Kwan and Grandmaster Hwang Kee. This traveling enables him to maintain
the highest quality and standardization of the Moo Duk Kwan System worldwide.

In addition to announcing his retirement, Master Hwang also turned over the National
Headquarters Studio in Springfield, New Jersey to certified Instructor Mr. Paul
Del Sordo.
Master Del Sordo began training under the direct
supervision of Hwang Sa Bom Nim in 1986 and continues as the principal of Hwang
Karate. His involvement as the former Federation and Technical Advisory Committee
Administrator, as well as personal assistant to H.C. Hwang Sa Bom Nim has made
the Headquarters Studio an invaluable source of quality instruction and technical
support. See link
